My new office
I have moved into my new office in Panaji
Its nice
My room is rectangular but appears square
One wall has a window all along its width and I can see the trees outside if I sit in my chair
The table was touching the wall but I moved it away from the wall because I wanted to keep a book rack there
There's a nice two seat sofa with a teepoy on one side left side of the door
Its probably for me to sit when I am having my lunch but I sit at my table because I want to see the leaves on the trees rustle while I am eating
If I lean out the window on the right, I can see the Joggers park
With some effort I can see the meditation hut but I can't see who is inside it because the bushes hide the view
On the left, I can see the road leading towards the quarters of the movers and shakers of Altinho or maybe Goa
There's a building across the road but it is hidden by the trees which is a nice thing
The room is clean and nice and waiting for me to mess and throw my things around
The chair is not comfortable enough to sleep but the back rest is high and that is okay for me because I like chairs with high back rest
Outside my room, there is place for four tables with computers for my staff to sit and work
The whole wall behind them is lined with cabinets and these are filled with files kept in numerical order which is nice because someone has done the work of placing it in a systematic manner and I dont have to do that
Some of these files land on my table everyday and I have to appear busy reading them and dispose them through the day
Occasionally I have to talk on the phone which is in a corner of my table and that is a thing I hate to do so if I get a call on the phone, I quickly tell whoever's calling that I will come and speak to them personally
So I keep the receiver back in its cradle and saunter over to their chamber and talk to them
I get to drink tea twice a day; once in the morning and once in the afternoon and though I want some more, I can't have it which is a pity
Colleagues at work drop in and sit in the chair across me and advise me about the office etiquette
I can't offer them tea because the lady who serves tea in the morning does not serve any tea after 10 am
My staff from outside my cabin bring in files and dump them on my table for me to browse through and advise them
All of the files are about court cases in the Supreme Court or the National Green Tribunal or of the High Court
I try to appear wise and serious when I am opening the files and reading them, but it is a difficult thing to do because I can't control my facial expressions especially when I am trying to understand what is written in the file
So I open the files only when no one is around and the rest of the time I try to appear wise and serious
I occasionally talk of sine die and suo moto because those are words that people in the legal fraternity throw around
The window is a big solace for my otherwise dreary existence
I am just three days in my new place and I suddenly am beginning to feel old
God! I miss my old office!
