Sound of silence

Let me begin today's very serious sermon with a quote from one of Ayn Rand's books

There is fear hanging in the air of the sleeping halls, and the air of the streets. Fear walks through the city, fear without name, without shape. All men feel it and none dare speak.

Elections are round the corner and elections is like a business; it flourishes when there is fear in the air

In one of my posts earlier, I had told how our purchases and expenses are related to fear

How news and advertising generate fear and anxiety to get us to spend our money in buying

The trend in the local news and social media is slowly building up towards creating a new type of fear

It is the fear that is gift wrapped in the form of insecurity

Insecurity is a very ugly thing; it makes you hate people you don't even know

Insecurity is loud

It is the fear of losing our identity; and it is being drummed out loudly and off the rooftops that we are going to lose our Goan-ness.

And it will be growing louder until the elections are over after which it is going to be as silent as a wick dipped in water

Insecurity is being scared of your own authentic self

And this insecurity is in the camouflage of arrogance

Arrogance is a creature.  It does not have any senses

It only has a sharp tongue and a pointing finger

And our streets will soon be filled with arrogant thoughts pointing arrogant fingers at people we dont know and creating the smoke screen of insecurity

And sometimes, out thoughts get backed by so much insecurity that they create lies that we believe are true

What is the cure for this?

It is the realization that this insecurity has been there earlier and this insecurity is present everywhere and that this insecurity is nothing new

Insecurity is nothing but uncertainty

And uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security

A guy is only insecure about losing a girl when he knows someone else can treat her better

And same is with the State and the same is with our sense of Goan-ness

We treat and value our values, our State and our culture with respect and love and nobody, absolutely nobody can take it from you

There is term for this insecurity - Atelphobia

Atelphobia is the fear of not being good enough

It is the belief that your true authentic self is not as magnificent as it actually is.

Let us conquer this fear that is being generated and not fall for it

Let it not control our emotions

Let our mind be free from this anxiety and understand that the problem that is being projected as serious and urgent has actually been with us and will be with us even after the elections

Let us have confidence in our abilities to overcome the obstacles in our life with a clear and calm mind

Let not fear rule us

Let not anxiety dominate us

Let not insecurity define our actions

Insecurities are loud; confidence is silent.
